چکیده

Our aim is to discuss what, when and, how deep logic should be taught in the computer science education in connection with the so called “Bologna process”. We survey the spread of logic in the computer science education. We draw special attention to the process resulting by 1987 in a comprehensive school in the international logic research called “Computer Science Logic”. It includes the investigation of research problems arising among others on such fields as programming theory, dataand knowledge base theory and, artificial intelligence as well. New directions have emerged during the problem solving, the earlier disciplines of classical logic like lambda calculus, type theory, model theory, modal logic, temporal logic has come back into the main scope. The results of these researches have a great impact on the development of computer science. The research results and the ever increasing role of logic should be obviously reflected by the education. We explain our conception concerning this issue as well.

Mathematical Logic and Deduction in Computer Science Education

Mathematical logic is a discipline used in sciences and humanities with different point of view. Although in tertiary level computer science education it has a solid place, it does not hold also for secondary level education. We present a heterogeneous study both theoretical based and empirically based which points out the key role of logic in computer science, computer science education and kn...

Teaching Artificial Intelligence and Logic Programming in a Competitive Environment

Motivation plays a key role in the learning process. This paper describes an experience in the context of undergraduate teaching of Artificial Intelligence at the Computer Science Department of the Faculty of Sciences in the University of Porto. A sophisticated competition framework, which involved Prolog programmed contenders and game servers, including an appealing GUI, was developed to motiv...

Mini-Projects Development in Computer Science - Students' Use of Organization Tools

This paper describes a study aimed at identifying different profiles of students’ project development processes. Specifically, we assessed the use of abstract data types for the development of knowledge-based projects. The concept of abstract data types was introduced to high school students who took the course “Computer Science-Logic Programming”. During their studies the students learned and ...

Computer Science Contests for Secondary School Students: Approaches to Classification

The International Olympiad in Informatics currently provides a model which is imitated by the majority of contests for secondary school students in Informatics or Computer Science. However, the IOI model can be criticized, and alternative contest models exist. To support the discussion about contests in Computer Science, several dimensions for characterizing and classifying contests are suggested.
